The development of PIM software has not stood still in recent times. Several initiatives have emerged, addressing various aspects of PIM practices.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT and similar Artificial Intelligence services are set to assist content editors by generating text suggestions based on product attributes. It is also conceivable that product descriptions will be fully automated, written, and published, with performance feedback improving the algorithms over time. A step before this could involve image recognition, helping to populate product attributes automatically.

Headless

Headless e-commerce initiatives are also significantly impacting the PIM landscape. Traditionally, all data from the PIM system is exported to receiving platforms and channels. However, new scenarios are emerging where these channels directly retrieve data from the PIM system itself. This reduces integration efforts and shortens publication times—potentially to real-time. Given that most PIM systems are already cloud-based, this is a logical next step.

Low-code integrations

Low-code solutions for (the remaining) integrations to and from PIM are becoming increasingly common. Traditionally, imports and exports were handled via extensions and modules within the PIM system. Now, this process is shifting to low-code tools and platforms alongside the PIM system. This makes integration much faster and significantly more manageable.
